August 2008

The Sunday morning was even better then the Saturday in terms of how long uncle Biek was allowed to sleep but still she was up pretty early. We watched a bit TV from the bed (giving me a little more time to recover :-) and then got out of bed.

She insisted on taking another shower and that turned out to be such a treat. She played with the water and shampoo for roughly half an hour and had so much fun in the cabin, regardless the fact that she had to do without a bath.

When she was done we went downstairs and basically prepared everything for getting home so we could simply get everything up and in the car in no time. Then we dressed up warm and went for a walk in the forest together. I think she hasn’t been to many forests, if any, because she kept asking when we would reach the forest while we were in fact already walking it. :-)

It had been ages since I was in that forest and from my memory I knew that there used to be one of those picnic tables ’somewhere in there’ and I had promised Eva we would sit down and have a few sandwiches and a drink there. Unfortunately I just couldn’t find that table anywhere (and boy did we look everywhere in there) so in order to make sure I could still get up in the morning I proposed a simple sit down with our bread on a stretch of grass. Luckily for me she agreed that was a good plan so the first piece of green we saw was ours and we had our lunch. Man I needed that break; Eva had walked just a bit but had been on my shoulders for most of the time so my back was burning like crazy.

That little sit-down did wonders for me and from there we went back to the car to go home.

When she walked back in she noticed my PC steering wheel and wanted to do some driving so I fired up TDU and we did some driving around on the glorious island of Hawaii. :-) She liked the black car best but didn’t fancy going off road too much and into the trees. Doing this driving together with her was just so much fun, we had a great time.

After this, time seemed to speed up. Fast. We had a nice pasta diner, changed Eva into her sleeping clothes and then stacked everything in the Volvo so we could drive back to Wageningen where Stefan’s parents would be waiting. When we got there Eva was sleeping like a baby, even though my Volvo isn’t one of the quietest cars around of course, so I could lift her from the car easily and put her directly into her own bed.

And that was the end of a perfectly nice weekend. We should do that again real soon. :-)

At around seven fifteen this morning she stood at my bed kind and told me that she didn’t quite understand why the night light hadn’t turn off. Good morning Eva :-) So we had a look and found out that the timer on it wasn’t adjusted at all. Wups, sorry dear, my mistake …

So we were up early and started with a nice shower. After we got dressed we went downstairs and had a lovely breakfast together. Two sandwiches with fruit candy and chocolate chips and a few cups of apple juice were gone in no time. Broad smile by Eva, she liked her breakfast.

After we cleaned up the breakfast mess we played with paper and stuff from which we were going to create a bear. She was awesome with the pair of scissors and is quite capable following the lines I put onto the paper. Amazing! She could cut paper with her left hand better than the right but drawing seemed to go better with the right. She’s a special kid, looks a lot like her mom … ;-)

In the afternoon we progressed a lot with the bear and tried watching a part of Toy Story  from DvD. She didn’t quite like that particular part very much so we went upstairs to look for more toys. We ‘just happened’ to run into a box with the matchbox and dinky cars I still own (which I strategically placed :-).

‘Cars are cool!’ was her reaction; she’s the perfect niece for me. :-) We also took the most naturally looking figures from my Star Wars toy collection so we had a few passengers and we brought the race track pieces with us, including a few loopings.

The race track combined with the toy cars were perfect for Eva, she just couldn’t stop racing the little cars down the track, trying to find out which would perform the best. That was so much fun to watch.

We had planned pancakes for diner, one of Eva’s favorites. We made the ingredients together, prepared a few slices of cheese and ham, cut up an apple and then started baking the pancakes. As soon as Eva’s pancake was ready I sat her at the table and she could dive in. A pancake with cheese, yum yum!

After finishing one for myself I joined her and saw that she wasn’t eating too much. I asked her what the matter was and she said that she just wasn’t all that hungry. Upon me asking her why she thought she didn’t, she said she didn’t know and after explaining to her that it had probably something to with the number of cookies she ate in the afternoon and during the movie she could only agree with me. So we finished her pancake together and finished off with a large bowl of yoghurt with fruit dip. After diner she had a little bit of playing time after which I took her to bed again.

Tonight after work I drove to Wageningen and picked up Eva. We first had a nice dinner there, together with Sofie and Stefan’s parents, and after we mounted Eva’s chair in the Volvo and collected everything we needed (which unfortunately over the course of the weekend didn’t turn out to be the ‘everything’ I had hoped) and then we went on our way to Katwijk.

Because when we got there it was still light, we first did the tour. I showed Eva her room, where the bathroom was and where she, in case of emergency, could find that illustrious Uncle Biek. Then lit the nightlight, activated the intercom (which immediately produced a shrill sound because the receiver was too close to it; ok, that works then) and after I read her a bedtime story she went sleeping.

I went downstairs and was not a minute later I was accompanied by … Eva who was standing in the door telling me that the two toy animals she had were not enough to get to sleep. Right … ok. Oh well, let’s go and have a look what kind of toy animals uncle Biek has then, shall we? The Panda bear I have didn’t look nice enough but luckily I had two little bears with Christmas hats on (don’t ask ;-) and those got her approval. After getting to bed again she slept like a baby. Lovely kid. :-)
