October 2008

This really is my season. Seriously, I love the darker days, don’t mind the occasional rain and sleep like a baby even with the wind hauling around the house. To a lot of you that may sound odd but those who know me will say ‘yup, that’s Biek alright.’

Even though I remember summer holidays as a kid where I’d be outside playing not minding the sun too much, over the past decade or so I’ve been doing mainly one thing during the summer and that’s looking forward to autumn and winter.

And that I still do, and will, but things change a bit when you all of a sudden find yourself driving a classic car which, let’s face it, isn’t the most ideal form of transportation in this type of weather. I mean the heating in my Volvo is great, if you so much as move the slider a centimeter from ‘kalt’ to ‘varmt’ (cold to hot) the car will be up to a very cozy temperature in no time.

The ventilation, however, isn’t all that great, which in a way can be expected from a car from the sixties I guess. But therein lies the biggest problem; keeping the car dry inside and the windows clean so I can look outside safely without any dead angles because of thawed up windows. The colder and wetter it gets, the longer it takes before the car is safe to drive and that time almost doubles with more people than just me inside.

In all honesty, on days like those I really do long for a little warmer climate, so I can use my car in a normal way. Just don’t tell anyone please … ;-)

My back is killing me lately and it’s been doing so for just a little longer than feels nice. Yesterday was my ’silent day’ at the office so I could get a load of work done but around noon I just couldn’t get a posture on my seat that would allow me to not feel my back anymore.

I think I’ll take things really easy this weekend and make sure I get a lot of rest. Hopefully that’ll help.

Dad and I took her under our care this afternoon and now she’s purring like never before. To be honest she needed the maintenance badly since she was running with a pretty bad cough lately but now that we’ve taken care of her I don’t think she’s ever run this smooth. It’s almost like having a new old car … if that makes sense. :-)

It’s good to have a dad who knows his way around those old cars, it makes learning these tricks so much easier.
