Motivation speech

Don’t worry, I’m not in use of one … yet. But I just watched a movie tonight that had the most amazing speech in it. Like me, you’ve probably seen loads of these in movies. For example when certain presidents ask everyone to ‘go for humanity’ just before the world ends, stuff like that. And in general I like those, you could say that I’m a motivation fan. Heck, I’ve given a couple of them myself when needed and to see the result after a good one is more rewarding than I can describe.

So what if … What if you are Ricky Bobby, presumably the best NASCAR driver in the world, and due to an terrible accident (and a lot of other generally bad stuff happening around you) you no longer feel like you belong behind the wheel of a race car. Or at least that’s what you think …

Up comes this sweet girl telling you just how it is, and that thunderous speech sounded something like this:

“Do you know why I think that you should race again?

It’s because what you love, Ricky. It is who you were born to be.

And here you sit, thinking. Well, Ricky Bobby is not a thinker. Ricky Bobby is a driver!

He is a doer! And that’s what you need to do. You don’t need to think, you need to drive.
You need speed. You need to get out there, and you need to rev your engine. You need to fire it up. You need to grab hold of the line between speed and chaos and you need to wrestle it to the ground like a demon cobra!

And then, when that fear rises up in your belly, you use it and you know that fear is powerful because it has been there for billions of years! And it is good, and you use it, and you ride it. You ride it like a skeleton horse through the gates of hell and then you win! You win!

You don’t win for anybody else, you win for you. You know why? Because a man takes what he wants, he takes it all. And you’re a man, aren’t you!? Aren’t you!?”

So far I’ve heard her give that speech twice and even now when writing it down it still sends shivers down my spine and gives me goose bumps. The sheer amount of energy coming from those few words, it’s just electrifying. Awesome!

Oh, in case you’re wondering the movie this was in is called ‘Talladega Nights : The ballad of Ricky Bobby’, starring Will Ferrell amongst others. And the lady who gave Bobby that terrific speech goes by the name of Amy Adams.

I’m off to watch it (the speech, not the whole movie) one more time before I go to bed. Go see it, it’s a great movie.
